This policy explains what data the Holy Bible app (called Bíblia Sagrada in Portuguese and Sagrada Biblia in Spanish) for Android, iPhone and iPad, and the website holybible.day, collect, why, who receives it and what choices you have. Here, “we” means the developer of the app, introduced below.

In short

Link to section: In short
  • No account. The app has no sign-up or login, and we never ask for your name, email or phone number.
  • Your reading stays with you. Highlights, bookmarks, notes, reading history and searches are saved only on your device. We don’t have a server that receives them.
  • Free thanks to ads. The app shows ads from Google AdMob. To show and measure ads, Google receives technical data such as your device’s advertising ID; to count how the app is used (Google Analytics for Firebase), it receives a random identifier for your installation.
  • Photos. Background photos on the Today screen and in verse images come from Pexels. Photos you choose from your own gallery stay on your device.
  • The website doesn’t track you. holybible.day sets no cookies of its own and has no analytics and no ads.
  • You’re in control. You can turn usage statistics on or off in Settings, review your ad consent in Privacy choices (in regions where the law requires consent), delete or reset your advertising ID, limit ad personalization and write to us at support@holybible.day.

Who we are

Link to section: Who we are

The app and the website are run by an independent developer based in Brazil who publishes on Google Play under the name UpMobilab (the “developer of Holy Bible”). The developer is the controller of the personal data described here and the point of contact for data protection matters, including requests under Brazil’s LGPD.

What stays on your device

Link to section: What stays on your device

Your reading, notes and settings

Link to section: Your reading, notes and settings

The app saves the following on your device, in its private storage:

  • highlights (and their colors), bookmarks and notes;
  • where you stopped reading, your reading history and the chapters you’ve read;
  • recent versions and recent searches;
  • your preferences: Bible version, theme, text size, app language, reminder time and days, and the last background photo you used for verse images.

None of this is sent to us. We have no server or database that receives it, so we can’t see it, and we can’t recover it if it’s lost. You can delete items one by one, use Clear history and Clear recent searches in the app, or erase everything by clearing the app’s storage or uninstalling the app.

Bible texts

Link to section: Bible texts

All 22 Bible translations come inside the app. Reading, searching and comparing translations work offline and send nothing over the internet.

Device backups

Link to section: Device backups

Android and iOS may include the app’s data in your own device backup (for example, Google backup or iCloud), depending on your settings. Those backups are kept under your Google or Apple account; we have no access to them.

What is collected when you’re online

Link to section: What is collected when you’re online

The app works without an internet connection. When you’re online, these services receive data:

Ads (Google AdMob)

Link to section: Ads (Google AdMob)

The app is free because it shows ads served by Google AdMob, a Google service.

  • What Google receives: your device’s advertising ID and other identifiers provided by the system (such as the App Set ID on Android), your IP address (and the approximate location derived from it), device model, operating system, language, app version, how you interact with ads (views and taps), and technical diagnostics from the ads software.
  • Why: to show ads, count views and clicks, prevent fraud and, where allowed, personalize ads.
  • When ads start: when you open the app, it first checks with Google whether your region requires consent for ads. The ads software is started only after this consent step (or with the choice you already made on a previous launch), and no ad is requested before that.
  • Consent in Europe: in the European Economic Area, the UK and Switzerland, the app shows Google’s consent form (Google User Messaging Platform) the first time you open it, before ads are loaded. If you don’t consent, Google may still show non-personalized ads, using limited data for purposes such as fraud prevention and limiting how often an ad repeats. Your choice is saved on your device.
  • Changing your choice: in regions where consent is required, Settings shows a Privacy choices option that opens Google’s form again, so you can review or change your choice at any time.
  • Outside those regions, Google may personalize ads based on the advertising ID. You can turn this off at any time: see “Your advertising ID” below.
  • Learn more: how Google uses information from apps that use its services, how Google uses data in advertising and the Google Privacy Policy.

Usage statistics (Google Analytics for Firebase)

Link to section: Usage statistics (Google Analytics for Firebase)

We use Google Analytics for Firebase to understand, in aggregate, how the app is used (for example, how many people open it each day and which screens are used most), so we can fix problems and decide what to improve.

  • What is recorded: a random identifier for your installation of the app, automatic events (such as first open, session start and app update), the names of the screens you open (for example, Today, Bible or Search), device model, operating system, language, app version, and approximate location (country, region and city) estimated from your IP address.
  • What is not recorded: the books, chapters or verses you read, what you search for, and your highlights, notes or bookmarks. We don’t send your name, email or phone number, because the app doesn’t have them.
  • Who processes it: Google, on our behalf. See Firebase privacy and security.
  • On or off: outside the European Economic Area, the UK and Switzerland, usage statistics are on unless you turn them off. In those regions (and while the app can’t yet tell your region), they stay off until you turn on the Usage statistics switch in Settings. You can change it at any time; your choice is saved on your device, and turning it off also deletes statistics not yet sent and resets the random identifier. While it’s off, the app sends no statistics to Google Analytics.
  • Not used for ads: usage statistics don’t collect the advertising ID and aren’t used to personalize ads.

Pexels photos (Today screen and verse images)

Link to section: Pexels photos (Today screen and verse images)

On the Today screen, the app downloads a background photo for the verse of the day from Pexels (the same one all day) without you asking. And when you open the photo choices to create a verse image, the app asks the Pexels API for a list of nature photos and downloads the images from Pexels’ servers. These requests carry no identifier of you, only the technical data that any internet connection reveals, such as your IP address. The address of the photo you pick is saved on your device. Pexels is operated by Canva Germany GmbH: see the Pexels Privacy Policy.

Your own photos, saving and sharing

Link to section: Your own photos, saving and sharing
  • Choosing a photo from your gallery: the app uses the system photo picker and receives only the photo you pick. It is used on your device to build the image and is not uploaded anywhere.
  • Saving the image: the app saves it to your gallery. Android 10 and older ask for storage permission; on iPhone and iPad, the system asks for permission to add photos.
  • Sharing: when you share a verse, an image or the app link, through the system share menu or straight to WhatsApp or Instagram, the content goes to the app you choose, and that app’s privacy policy applies. We don’t receive a copy.

Verse of the day reminder

Link to section: Verse of the day reminder

The reminder is a local notification, scheduled on your device for the time and days you choose, using your device’s time zone. There is no notification server: nothing is sent to us or to anyone else. Android 13 and later, and iOS, ask for your permission before showing notifications. You can turn the reminder off in the app’s Settings or in your device settings.

Rating the app and store links

Link to section: Rating the app and store links

Rate the app and the download links open Google Play or the App Store. What happens there is governed by Google’s or Apple’s privacy policies.

Permissions the app uses

Link to section: Permissions the app uses
  • Internet and network status: ads, usage statistics and Pexels photos. Reading works offline.
  • Notifications (optional): the verse of the day reminder.
  • Run at startup: to reschedule the reminder after your device restarts.
  • Photos and storage: only to save the verse image to your gallery (storage on Android 10 and older; “add photos” on iPhone and iPad). Choosing a photo uses the system picker.
  • Advertising ID (Android): ads.
  • Tracking (iPhone and iPad): if the app asks, ads use your device’s advertising identifier (IDFA) only if you allow it.

The app doesn’t access your contacts, camera, microphone, precise location or any other files.

Your advertising ID

Link to section: Your advertising ID

The advertising ID is an identifier provided by your device’s operating system that you can reset or delete at any time:

  • Android: open Settings › Google › Ads (on some phones, Settings › Security & privacy › Privacy › Ads) and choose Delete advertising ID or Reset advertising ID. Menu names vary by manufacturer and Android version.
  • iPhone and iPad: open Settings › Privacy & Security › Tracking and turn tracking off for the app, or turn off the option that lets apps ask to track you.
  • Google Account: manage ad personalization in My Ad Center.

After you delete the ID, the app can still show ads, but they won’t be personalized based on that identifier.

Sensitive information

Link to section: Sensitive information

We don’t ask about or record your religious beliefs. Your reading, notes and searches stay on your device, and usage statistics don’t include what you read. Still, simply using a Bible app could suggest an interest in religion. Google’s policies don’t allow advertisers to personalize ads based on religious beliefs.

This website (holybible.day)

Link to section: This website (holybible.day)
  • No tracking: the site has no accounts, forms, analytics, ads or third-party trackers, and it sets no cookies of its own. Fonts and images are served from our own domain.
  • Hosting: the site is hosted on Cloudflare, which processes the technical data needed to deliver and protect it: IP address, browser and device type, the page requested, date and time, and the referring page. Cloudflare may set a strictly necessary security cookie when it needs to block abusive traffic. See the Cloudflare Privacy Policy.
  • Language: when you open holybible.day, we use the language your browser sends to take you to the Portuguese, English or Spanish version. We don’t store it.
  • Links: Google Play and the other sites we link to have their own privacy policies.

When you contact us

Link to section: When you contact us

If you email support@holybible.day, we receive your email address, your name if your email shows it, and what you write. We use it only to answer you. Messages are forwarded to our mailbox by Cloudflare Email Routing. We keep the conversation while we help you and for up to 12 months afterwards, unless the law requires us to keep it longer or you ask us to delete it sooner.

Legal bases

Link to section: Legal bases

Where data protection law requires a legal basis (such as the LGPD in Brazil and the GDPR in Europe), we rely on:

  • Consent, where the law requires it (European Economic Area, UK and Switzerland): for personalized ads, given in Google’s form and changed in Privacy choices; and for usage statistics, given by turning on Usage statistics in Settings and withdrawn by turning it off.
  • Legitimate interests, to keep the app free with ads, to measure usage and fix problems, to show the photo of the day on the Today screen, and to deliver and protect the website. We collect as little as possible, and you can object (for example, by turning off Usage statistics in Settings).
  • Providing what you ask for, such as loading Pexels photos when you create a verse image and answering your messages.
  • Legal obligations, when the law requires us to keep or disclose information.

Who receives data

Link to section: Who receives data
  • Google (AdMob and Google Analytics for Firebase): see the Google Privacy Policy.
  • Pexels (Canva Germany GmbH): photos for the Today screen and verse images.
  • Cloudflare: website hosting and forwarding of support emails.
  • Google Play and the App Store: when you download the app or open its store page, under their own policies.

We don’t sell your personal data for money, and we don’t share it with anyone else, except when the law requires it or to protect people’s rights and safety.

International transfers

Link to section: International transfers

We are based in Brazil, and our providers process data in the United States and other countries. For these transfers, they use the safeguards required by law, such as standard contractual clauses and, where applicable, the EU-U.S. Data Privacy Framework.

How long data is kept

Link to section: How long data is kept
  • On your device: until you delete it or uninstall the app.
  • Usage statistics: event data is kept for at most 14 months and then deleted automatically; aggregated reports (such as daily user counts) may be kept longer.
  • Ads: according to Google’s data retention policy.
  • Emails: up to 12 months after the conversation ends, as described above.
  • Website logs: for a short period, according to Cloudflare’s policies.

Your rights

Link to section: Your rights

Wherever you live, you can ask us what data we have about you, ask us to correct or delete it, and object to its use. Some laws give you specific rights:

Brazil (LGPD)

Link to section: Brazil (LGPD)

Under Brazil’s General Data Protection Law (Law No. 13,709/2018), you can ask for: confirmation that we process your data; access; correction of incomplete, inaccurate or outdated data; anonymization, blocking or deletion of unnecessary or excessive data, or data processed unlawfully; portability; deletion of data processed with your consent; information about who we share data with and about the option of not consenting and its consequences; withdrawal of consent; objection; and review of decisions made solely by automated processing. You can also file a complaint with Brazil’s National Data Protection Authority (ANPD).

European Economic Area, UK and Switzerland (GDPR)

Link to section: European Economic Area, UK and Switzerland (GDPR)

You have the right to access, rectify and erase your data, to restrict processing or object to it (at any time, when it is based on legitimate interests), to data portability, and to withdraw consent without affecting processing carried out before. You can complain to your data protection authority: see the list of EU authorities; in the UK, the ICO; in Switzerland, the FDPIC.

United States (California and other states)

Link to section: United States (California and other states)

Some US state privacy laws, such as the CCPA in California, give you the right to know what personal information is collected, to access, correct and delete it, and to opt out of the “sale” or “sharing” of personal information and of targeted advertising.

  • In the last 12 months, the app collected these categories: identifiers (advertising ID, app installation identifier, IP address), internet or other electronic network activity (interactions with the app and with ads), and approximate location (derived from the IP address). Sources and purposes are described above.
  • We don’t sell personal information for money. However, letting Google use the advertising ID to personalize ads may count as a “sale” or “sharing” for targeted advertising under some of these laws. To opt out, delete or reset your advertising ID or turn off tracking, as explained in “Your advertising ID”, or write to us.
  • We don’t use sensitive personal information to infer characteristics about you, and we don’t knowingly sell or share the personal information of anyone under 16.
  • We won’t treat you differently for exercising your rights. If we decline a request, you can appeal by replying to our answer.

Other countries

Link to section: Other countries

If you live elsewhere, for example in another Latin American country, you have the rights your local law gives you. Write to us to use them.

How to make a request

Link to section: How to make a request

Write to support@holybible.day. We answer within the time limits set by law, for example 15 days under the LGPD, one month under the GDPR and 45 days under the CCPA.

Good to know: because the app has no accounts, the data Google receives is linked to random device identifiers, not to your name or email, so we usually can’t find it from your message. The fastest way to break that link is to delete your advertising ID and reinstall the app (or clear its storage, which also erases your notes and highlights). For data that Google controls, you can also contact Google directly.

Children

Link to section: Children

The app is meant for a general audience and is not directed to children under 13. We don’t knowingly collect personal data from children, and the app doesn’t ask for anyone’s age. If you are a parent or guardian and believe a child’s data was collected through the app, write to us and we’ll help.

Security

Link to section: Security
  • Your highlights and notes are protected by the isolation your device’s system gives each app; locking your device with a passcode or biometrics protects them further.
  • The app and the website use encrypted connections (HTTPS) for the data described here.
  • Because we don’t run servers with your data, there is no account database that could leak.
  • No system is 100% secure, which is why we also collect as little as possible.

Changes to this policy

Link to section: Changes to this policy

When the app or the law changes, we’ll update this policy and the date at the top of the page. If a change is significant, such as a new type of data or a new partner, we’ll highlight it on this site and, where appropriate, in the app before it takes effect.
